So many great sci-fi shows, movies, and books are out there – a sci-fi and fantasy lover’s dreams.
My love of sci-fi began when I was a small child. Even before I saw Star Wars for the first time as a not-quite-5-years-old, I loved the idea of traveling across space, exploring the unknown, and all that represented.
Admittedly, I wasn’t much into comic books as a kid. None of my friends were into them. My exposure to X-Men was initially during summer camp in my early teens, then cartoons in the 90s. I was into the Christopher Reeve Superman and early Batman movies, too.
In my late teens, I started reading fantasy. I worked my way through JRR Tolkien, David Eddings, Anne McCaffery, and got seven books into Robert Jordan’s Wheel of Time series (but then I gave up on it). This influenced my writing, and while I had written sci-fi as a teenager, in my early 20s I started writing fantasy – and my Source Chronicles series was born.
I was influenced by the few sci-fi and fantasy movies, shows, and books out there. Today, there are an amazing number of sci-fi and fantasy books, movies, and TV shows happening. This time is the absolute sci-fi and fantasy lover’s dreams.
So many TV shows
Over the past few years, sci-fi TV has exploded.
Though it’s ending, there is The Expanse. Soon, we get the 3rd season of The Orville. Also, the final season of Lost in Space is about to drop. And Cowboy Bebop is pretty wild, too.
Then there are all the Star Trek series. We have Prodigy, a new season of Discovery, and next year the 2nd season of Picard and the third season of Lower Decks.
I am super excited about all the Star Wars TV available! The Book of Boba Fett drops before the end of the year, Obi-Wan, Andor, and another season of The Mandalorian next year. And then – Ashoka!
Superhero TV is everywhere. Hawkeye just came out, She-Hulk, Ms. Marvel, and several other Marvel shows are coming. And I’ve enjoyed DC’s Titans.
That’s just sci-fi. There is a bunch of awesome fantasy coming and available. Despite being unable to finish the books, I think I might check out The Wheel of Time. I look forward to the next season of Shadow and Bone. And much as I wasn’t thrilled by the last season of Game of Thrones, House of the Dragon looks intriguing.
If you love sci-fi and fantasy as much as I do – this is an amazing time to be alive. So many cool ways to enjoy outer space and sword and sorcery fiction.
Movies for the sci-fi and fantasy lover’s dreams
Marvel continues to put out fun and fantastic superhero movies. And there are so many coming that look incredible.
Spider-Man: No Way Home and the multiverse stuff is about to come out. The next Doctor Strange and Wakanda Forever are going to be fun, I suspect. And there are others, too.
Beyond that, as much as I was not a huge fan of the 2nd and 3rd films, The Matrix Resurrections looks pretty cool. And though I have not watched the newest movies, another Jurassic Park is coming.
I don’t see any fantasy movies on the horizon. But then, given the nature of fantasy stories, TV leaves a lot more room for the epic scope most encompass.
In my experience, except for Infamy Ascending, fantasy novels tend to be far broader than my sci-fi.
Books for the sci-fi and fantasy lover’s dreams
I keep discovering lots of new books and authors in the sci-fi and fantasy worlds.
I’m excited to get into more and more of these. So many choices are out there – and they come from lots of different established and indie authors like me.
Recently, I read through Alex White’s The Salvagers series. I picked up the first of Beck Chambers’ Wayfarers series. And I finally read the last of Lindsay Buroker’s Fallen Empire novels. Since I read every morning, there are numerous other sci-fi and fantasy novels in my queue.
Plus, of course, I am writing more sci-fi and fantasy.
For 2021, I published a total of 6 novels. Two more books in my Void Incursion series and the first complete story arc and 4 books in my Forgotten Fodder series.
In 2022, I intend to publish the 3rd novel of the Source Chronicles series, Harbinger. Additionally, I will be completing my Void Incursion series. And I am likely going to start my new Savagespace sci-fi series next year, too.
The present, right now, really is an ultimate sci-fi and fantasy lover’s dreams. I am rather excited to contribute to this with my stories.
This brings me to my final thought.
Please support the lesser-known and indie authors
I am a big fan of certain well-known and big-name authors. When I first became a serious reader, we didn’t have all these amazing options for creating and publishing independently.
I tried, at first, to go the conventional route as an author. But between the vast number of other writers out there, the gatekeepers and hard-to-comprehend requirements, and general timing (because in my experience – an agent or publisher has some unknown need for your brand to fulfill at an unspecified time).
To be fair – some of the indie authors out there are not good. But a lot have great stories, well-crafted and edited works, and are utterly worth checking out.
Take that into consideration, please, when you buy your next read.
Then – please – write a review! We independent authors need reviews to help us get seen and recognized. Even if you only give a star rating – it’s much appreciated.
This time is in many ways the ultimate for the sci-fi and fantasy lover’s dreams. Keep reading and watching. And if you’re a creator like me – keep bringing your sci-fi and fantasy dreams to the world!
