When mind, body and spirit are one, you can do amazing things. Consciousness creates reality, and you can do virtually anything you can conceive of.
But when mind, body, and spirit are two or three, manifestation can be particularly challenging.
On my blog I wrote about self-motivation and overcoming depression this week. One of the reasons I write about any given topic is because I myself am probably working on it.
Self-motivation has been an ongoing challenge for me. Without a doubt I can spend a long, long time writing about the why and how of this. But for now, I just want to acknowledge that this is problematic.
Further, like so many of you, I deal with depression. Mostly it is in check, but there are still times it bests me. Creating some tools for overcoming depression can help a lot of us out.
As I have been sitting here, trying to come up with a topic, I find myself so easily distracted. Checking over my various e mail accounts…again. Combing through Facebook. Pausing for a game on Facebook or my phone. And it dawns on me…I am consuming too much junk.
Recently I put myself onto Medium. In addition to sharing my own works, I have been reading blogs by others. I get e mails about articles I might find interesting, and one about blocking creativity actually opened my mind to an idea I haven’t considered. Too much junk is not good for you…and not just in the department of food.
The negativity of social media can rot the mind. Distractions that do not stimulate and energize dull the spirit. When the mind and spirit are feeling rotted and dulled, caring for the body feels particularly daunting.
Caring for mind, body and spirit is only as difficult as we make it
Like many things in life, we tend to add unnecessary levels of complication. Let’s take success, for example. Many people see success as this grand, impressive, amazing thing…and as such, hard to reach. Yet success could be as easy as not taking the cookie on the platter and sticking with your diet, or getting out of bed with your alarm, or keeping your word.
I know that I often forget how little it actually takes to properly care for myself. What I tend to neglect, however, is the trinity of mind, body and spirit, and just how important all of them are to one another.
Why does this matter? Because it has only just occurred to me that for conscious reality creation to work best, mind, body and spirit must be one. This can be relatively easy to do…but also easy to forget.
Let me break it down and make some sense of it.
Mind, body and spirit as individual
Body is easiest in concept. Food and drink, exercise and proper rest help the body to get into shape. When there is an imbalance in this, the body becomes soft and doughy. If it gets really out of balance, the body can break down, and that certainly helps nobody get anywhere they desire to go.
Mind is a bit more complex. Further, a lot of the things that impact the mind will also impact the spirit. Reading for pleasure is good for the mind, as is studying and learning new things. Keeping aware of our thoughts and asking questions to be mindful is super-healthy. Reading junk, however, like a lot of the stuff on social media, will poison the mind, drawing in negative information and energy that dampens the spirit.
Which brings me to spirit. What IS spirit? It isn’t just heart, and feeling…it is our state beyond thought. Meditation, which is also good for both body and mind, is all about connecting spirit with the higher self, and Universal energy. Spirit is complex, because it is the furthest from our understanding, hardest to experience with five of our six senses.
Things like meditation, games that make you feel a sense of accomplishment, new ideas that set your heart aflutter, sex and intimacy with a lover are great for spirit. Distractions like time-killing, pointless games played endlessly and getting into unwinnable discussions and debates will dampen the spirit.
Keep in mind, sometimes a distraction is a good way to reset. However, finding the balance between the reset and avoidance and a lack of motivation can be a challenge.
Aligning mind, body and spirit
Recognizing all of this, I am coming to see that I need to take steps to get all three of these notions aligned. Conscious reality creation can be a challenge, but more so when mind, body and spirit are not together.
I am acknowledging that I need to take actions to line these up. I need to get back to better controlling my dietary habits and exercise. To help make that so, I need to be more cognizant of what I am putting into my mind, and consume less junk. Additionally, I need to take the time to meditate daily again, and do things to fill my spirit. From there, I can get to work on manifesting this life how I most desire for it to be.
I am me, and continuing to work on what that means is the key to being the best me that I can. As per usual, there is work ahead for me to do. Thank you for reading these words, and taking part in my ongoing journey. Thank you for joining me.
